some poems...

some poems i wrote back in college (november 1999 to be exact)

Cccuuussstttaaarrrddd!
A tradition has come to be
For my friends and me.
We meet up and go out for
Custard.
But not your run of the mill custard,
Frozen custard.
We're goin' through St. Louis
On Old Route 66,
Now called Watson,
And then Chippewa
(at the River Des Peres).
Then we see what we long for --
Our hope while away at college:
Ted Drewes.
Willingly stand in line
For a long time
Just for a little piece of heaven.
But heaven has been renamed:
Fox Treat,
Hawaiian Delight,
Jim White,
Big Apple,
Great Pumpkin,
And,
la creme de la creme,
Creme Bouffe!
Oh joy!
Oh bliss!
Oh shit!
I dripped.
Tea & Hemingway
I painted my fingernails just for you.
I have thirty four colors;
Just a few.
What color do you like?
Just pick one, damn!
You look at me.
I look at you.
I do not know how you see me.
Like tea?
Am I hot and steamy?
Or am I cool and sunny?
How do I taste to you now?
I attempt to read you like a good book.
To me you are a Hemingway tale,
But not the entire story.
I only know the tip of your iceberg.
And I love it.

just for Mark

i had forgotten about

WASATIE

(i need to go look through my notes for more classroom goodness, lol)

back in the day....

ok, back in 2000, i was in a world religion class in college (Dana College in Blair, Nebraska)...it was a fun bunch of people in my class...there were a few of us who liked the fun names & words we were learning, but we realized that they sounded fun with other, more common to us, words, too...so we came up with a list of yogurt names...

"Help your stomach reach enlightenment with yoga brand yogurt" including flavors like Karma Kiwi, Dharmaberry, etc...we were not being mean/sarcastic/etc, we were coming up with a fun way to help us remember some of the new vocabulary we were learning...

my pal Mark was going to be "captain yogurt", a guy named Dallas in our class was going to be "the genius behind the operation" and i would edit whatever we put out...

the Lutheran Song

ok, so one of my all time favorite bands is Lost & Found who can be found at speedwood.com

one of my favorite songs by them is called "the Lutheran Song" -- here are the lyrics that i found on their website

Lyle Lovett, John Mellencamp, Ace Frehley of KISS
St. Olaf, Henry Muhlenberg, and Gustavus Adolphus

'89 and 1992's Miss America
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, William Rehnquist, we swear-ica
Bruce Willis, Lonnie Anderson, and David Hasselhoff
William Hurt, William H. Macey, Kris Kristofferson are Lutherans
And on the late night TV screen, Andy Richter could tell somebody "what does this mean"
Steve Jobs of the Apple computer, Gary Larson of the Far Side cartoon
Three different astronauts who flew shuttles toward the moon
Dave Winfield and NASCAR's Dales, Earnhardt and Jarrett, each had an acolyte gown and were happy to wear it
Tim Johnson, Fritz Hollings, Paul Simon and Ed Meece all have been known to sing a little "this is the feast"
You know who likes his potluck dinner? Troy Aikman the Super Bowl winner
Governers of Indiana, Minnesota, Wyoming, Kansas, Idaho, Montana and Tennessee
And Pachabel, you know, with a Canon In D
And Woody from Cheers and Cindy McTee these all sing a little Lutheran liturgy
Elke Sommer, Martin Marty and Lucas Cranach, The Old
Albert Swietzer, Soren Kierkegaard and Dag Hammerskold
Sally Struthers, Anne Margaret, and J.A.O. Preuss
Mary Hart, Garrison Keiller, Lake Wobegon's voice
Liv Ullman, Tom Landry, Professor Pelliken whose name is Jaroslav
Pauls -- Gerhardt, Manz, Meir and Stormin' Norman Schwartzkopf
Robert Cade, the Gatorade maker, Johannes Keppler and Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Martin Luther wasn't born a Lutheran and that might be a shock, but Mark Hansen was, April Larson and Johann Sebastian Bach
There are foods that Lutherans adopt, for example, the pretzel
Dana Carvey is a Lutheran, now "isn't that special?"
Yes, these all are Lutherans but still only just a few
The most notable Lutherans of all are every single one of you!

Check out my...

Travel Journal at the travel channel website -- Ukraine 2005

I plan on adding more each day from my journal from the trip. Later I will add information from my trip to Spain and other trips I have been on (Washington D.C., Maine, etc).

AND, be on the look out! In a few weeks -- July 8-12 to be exact -- I will be road tripping with one of the teens from my church, Carolyn, to northern Minnesota for a district youth rally!! The resort where the rally is has wi-fi, so I plan on a daily blog "treat" from our travels!

i am feeling better....

just a little, lol

i got a call & i have an interview tomorrow afternoon -- it is with a company that does promotions/marketing/sales with sports teams, hotels, restaurants, etc...sounds like an interesting job, but i don't know what the pay/exact job description/benefits/etc are, so we will see if it is worth it...i so want the girl scout job!!!!

i am so discouraged...

i am looking for a new job. i have to. i am unemployed right now. but nothing is seeming to work out for me. i have one to call on friday if i have not heard from them (i interviewed there on MAY 30th and have yet to hear about a 2nd interview because the one that would do that was/is out of town...). i have emailed or mailed out at least 30 resumes...i have had THREE interviews. i want a job i will be happy at and where i am treated with respect (unlike my previous job). today alone i have emailed about 5 jobs (1 for information, 4 with resumes) and mailed one resume...i can not bring myself to apply for a job i know i would be unhappy at. i also refuse to waste my time & the possible employer's time applying for something that i am unqualified for...

my biggest problem is that i do not have the degree to go with my experience! i have a bachelor of arts with a double major in print communication & spanish and a double minor in english & religion...HOWEVER, my work experience is in child care & education...

i applied for unemployment benefits...i have done all that is asked...they will be calling me on friday morning with some questions...so my gut is in knots thinking i will be rejected...

i can't afford to go back to school...i can't afford to not be employed much longer...i just can't handle it much longer...
