Komen Walk '08

Dear Friends and Family,

I recently accepted the challenge to raise funds to support the 2008 Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure® on June 21, 2008 in the fight against breast cancer. One in eight women will be stricken with breast cancer in her lifetime and the more we raise, the more the St. Louis Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure can give back to fund vital breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs in our own community and support the national search for a cure.

Click here to visit my personal page and pledge your support.

Please join me in the fight by pledging in support of my participation in the Race or contributing generously to the 2008 Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure®. Your tax-deductible contribution will fund innovative outreach and awareness programs for medically underserved communities in St Louis and national breast cancer research. It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause - you can make a donation online by simply clicking on the link at the bottom of this message.

Thank you so much for your time and support in the fight against breast cancer! Every step counts!

Sincerely,
Becky

what i've up to....

since school ended a week ago i have been busy at home -- i have been cleaning!! i have averaged a room a day since tuesday (had to take the holiday off!) but now i have a clean kitchen, living room & bathroom -- i have also started on the computer room which will go pretty quick this afternoon once my dad does his part and goes through the desk stuff (he told me not to!)...

other than cleaning, i have been reading! i checked out a bunch of books at the library by jodi picouldt -- i should be done with all of her 14/15 books by the end of the summer! they have been taking me about 2 days lately, but once summer school and class start, it may take a little longer, lol

this weekend i am doing a SLIME BOOTH for mad science! i am pretty excited -- making slime is fun & this also means a little bit of extra money...i may also be helping out at some of their summer camp stuff, but i haven't seen that schedule yet...

youthgroup schedules are done for the summer! i need to do ONE sign up sheet and print off some pages that are the entire schedule so they dont have to write everything down...i am also going to find out if any of them need community service hours and they can come help me with the power hour room! not sure what day that would be on, but i am thinking monday or tuesday afternoons

today my laptop should be here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am excited! i am not sure how long it will take to get it onto the home network, etc, but hopefully my brother will come soon and get it all working :)

i have to go birthday shopping for my godson -- he will be TWO tomorrow and i haven't bought him anything yet! not sure what i am going to get -- i usually do books, but i may do some crafty kit thing this year...

i think that is about it -- this has been a really long update, i will try and be better (especially once the new computer is up and going!)

toodles!

shocking!!

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,358956,00.html

this story makes me SOOOO sad and mad -- this "teacher" acted so wrong in so many ways -- this reminds me, though, why i am going into teaching -- most teachers care about all their students and work hard to help all students (even those with special needs) successful -- some teachers, however, make the world a little sadder for everyone

one yay!

i was able to get my photos & videos all transfered last night!!

it took at least 4 hours! but then this morning they were on the share drive & i quickly transfered them to the hard drive on my dad's computer, so i think they are safe now! i am VERY VERY VERY happy about that!

toodles!

grrrrrrrrrr

not sure how well this will go -- my laptop is dying :( it is gving me weird lines and locking up and just being a piece of you know what -- so i am on my dad's computer -- i have the majority of my files saved onto his computer (other than my photos which is pissing me off!!!!)....

and now i wait & decide -- i need to get a new laptop, and i am pretty sure i am going with a mac this time...now to find the best deal on the best one for me...then i can be rid of the crappy one i have!

so, if i am not as chatty as i sometimes am (not lately, i know!!), please bear with me...

Ukraine = safe rides??

so i am reading articles on foxnews.com yesterday -- and there is a sad article about 2 people who tragically died after the carousel they were on jumped off the tracks and slammed into a pole...it made me re-think the rides we went on last summer!!

01580010

a roller coaster where the "seat belt" was a rope that was like a foot long...

01580005

a ferris wheel where the "latch" on the side of the car we were in was a rusty chain, and it never stopped -- even for you to get on and off...

01580023

the umbrella ride -- i did not go on this, so i am not sure how truly safe it was!!

my favorite line from the article is this -- "Accidents in amusement parks are frequent in Ukraine. Safety rules are often neglected and many rides are not properly checked." -- because it is something i saw with my own eyes!

Nim's Island

went to a movie today -- Nim's Island -- it is very good!  it is very family friendly, but also pretty emotional...i had tears in my eyes!!

the acting is good, the set is beautiful, there are some pretty funny parts, and the animals that are in it are fun!  some of the blue/green screen action was pretty obvious, but it added some to the fanciful aspect of the film
