sayin' hey from a little internet cafe in ukraine!
well, this week has been pretty exciting!
all week the kids worked hard on their crafts! yay me! they finished all that they were suppose to, except the final upper level craft of a mobile, so carolyn & i are stinging those up tonight!
monday was amazing with the older kids & the story! i guess they finished the lesson and when carolyn was going to start review stuff, the kids starting asking all sorts of questions regarding heaven, hell, Satan, sins, forgiveness, the church...everything!!! it is days like that which make this trip worth all the sucky stuff!
the afternoons have been pretty quiet here -- we have seen all there is to see, so it has been a lot of hanging out at the place we are staying and watching things dubbed into ukrainian or russian! not the most exciting, but we need the rest after the long mornings of VBS
saturday was fun with the people from kiev here...and sunday we went to church in kiev (even saw a baptism) and then did shopping and wandering around kiev...
tomorrow is reading a lesson and then the final program for the parents & such -- the kids know 5 songs in english, john 3:16, the Lord's prayer (at least partly) and we are going to have them do their entire litany of english flashcards we made...not sure what tomorrow afternoon will hold!!
saturday we head to kiev at 6:30 AM! 9 am breakfast at dubeck 2, then a trip to Lavras (caves monestary) and then shopping!! i have a list of what i want to get people, so i hope i can find what i really want to!!
flying home sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dobrey den!
so it is after 2 PM on friday where i am -- it is a little past 6 AM at home...
well, VBS went awesome this week, we had some weird tie ups early in the week -- missing translator, more kids than TOF expected, etc etc etc -- but it is moving very smoothly now and the kids are really enjoying the Bible lessons and crafts...
afternoons have not been rollercoasters lately!! 2 afternoons i stayed at the apartment and did SQUAT and carolyn went to the river for the beach with the translator, the pastor & his family...yesterday we walked and saw some old churches and burial mounds -- very interesting, but i was glad to take the trolley a few places...we went up this huge bell tower and i could not walk the whole thing -- too high for me & i waited part way up...but carolyn & ian & pastor all rang one of the bells, which was funny...
tomorrow (saturday) we are going to a picnic with some other pastors and families and translators, i am hoping there are other TOF volunteers along...then sunday is church and some sightseeing in kiev which will be a nice change of pace! then monday-thursday we are going to try and get the rest of the lessons and crafts in and then a final program on friday -- thursday we also have a group of TOF & ULC people coming to visit, so more americans! yay!! friday we will return to kiev, saturday is shopping in kiev and sunday is fly home! woohoo!!
this has been a long trip so far, and we are just over half done...a lot has gone on here, so i will miss the town & the people, but i will also be uber happy to be HOME!!
more to come later (i hope) from a little internet cafe in chernihiv!

hello from europe!
well, ukraine is going well as many of you know (if i have your email address then you may have heard from me and seen some interesting photos)...
this computer is weird -- the caps lock had been stuck, but now it is better, i guess, lol
i wo't be able to post photos on the blog yet, but after my trip i will post a lot of fun ones :)
so far on this trip i have eaten good food, slept in a bed that smells like PEE (EWWWWWWWWWWW), ridden a rollercoaster, ridden a ferris wheel, taught one day of VBS stuff and walked and walked and walked! we even had pizza today!
our one translator, ian, is going to school at MLS in the fall, carolyn & i want to send some things to be put in his room before he arrives -- pictures and maybe a US flag, etc...i am also going to send a package to the pastor & his family once i am home with photos, and some other american goodies for his wife & son...
we have spent almost no money so far -- the pastor is making sure we have everything we need, which is nice, but i feel bad that he is spending so much on us for things we had planned on buying (water for example)...
the flat we are staying at is odd -- the man who is there only comes home to sleep, and his wife & baby are at the sea for holiday, and we do not know when or if they will be back while we are staying!! carolyn & i both wish we could stay with the pastor, but his apartment is TEENY TINY and there is no room for us at all there -- but we do go eat dinner there every night which is nice...
this coming weekend we are going to kyiv for an "excursion" and for church...church will still stink because it feels like a HUGE waste of time when you understand NOTHING being said!! i will post at some point about the sucky aspects of the trip, but there will also be a longer post with the blessings in the trip! we are going to go to some museums when we go to kyiv this weekend, i want to go to the chernobyl museum, but i do not know if that will happen or not...
after next weekend's trip to kyiv, we will be back in chernihiv for another 5 days to do more VBS -- including a final program -- then back to kyiv for shopping and a few small things, then flights home again on sunday july 15!!
